Ford has given its affordable electric pickup a name. The midsize truck that launches the company’s Universal EV Platform will be called the Fathom, and Ford says it will start at $28,350, with pre-orders opening in early 2027.
That figure is a starting MSRP for the base model fitted with the standard-range battery. Ford’s own footnote is explicit that it “excludes taxes, title, registration, and fees”, so the number you actually pay will be higher. Source: Ford’s announcement, published 6 August 2026.
What Ford has confirmed

Why “Fathom”
Ford leads its announcement with the dictionary entry: a fathom is a six-foot unit used to measure the depth of water, and as a verb it means to understand something fully. The company frames the name as a signal that the truck was designed around the buyer rather than around a spec sheet.
What Ford has not said
The gaps matter more than the price. Ford has published no battery capacity, no EPA range estimate and no DC fast-charging figure. It has not priced an extended-range version, and it has not given a customer delivery date — only that pre-orders open early in 2027.
